Fanvil Executive Reflects on VoIP Quality, Communication Trends Worldwide
By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor
If you looked into the crystal ball of IP communications, what big trends would you see for 2011? Mobile video chat? HD voice deployments?
The answer depends on who you ask – and where they’re located.
“Current mobile video chat and conferencing is not widespread, at least not in China,” Robbin Feng, general manager for Fanvil Technology Co., a Chinese developer and manufacturer of VoIP products, told TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert). “This is caused by the limitation of higher charges, bandwidth and the quantity of users. But mobile video chat and conferencing should be a basic element of people’s daily communication with the development of technology and cost going down.”
Fanvil provides VoIP communication devices solutions for small and medium sized businesses – a burgeoning and competitive high-tech market. You’ll see them and more companies like them at the ITEXPO (News - Alert), to be held Oct. 4-6 in Los Angeles.
Feng, who is attending the show, sat down to share his thoughts with Tehrani. The full exchange follows.
Rich Tehrani: What are some of the most significant trends in technology today?
Robbin Feng: Going from traditional communication based on PSTN and 2G mobile network to unified communication based on VoIP and 3/4G mobile networks.
RT: Nearly every phone manufacturer is now incorporating support for wideband codecs. Will we finally see widespread HD voice deployments in 2011?
RF: With the improvement of hardware and the network, we believe HD voice will be deployed largely but not sure it will be widespread in 2011.
